Stoke by Nayland Weekend, 17th-18th October

Weekends away playing golf and socialising are proving very popular with TEEforeTWO Members, and our visit to the Suffolk countryside this weekend was no exception. The weather forecast was perfect for the 36 people who had travelled from all parts of the country to play the two courses, Constable and Gainsborough, over the weekend.

The Stoke by Nayland Club and Hotel was the venue for the Senior PGA Championship in 2006/07 where the winners were Sam Torrance and Nick Job.

Saturday's mixed fourballs were played over the Constable course in chilly but lovely Autumn sunshine. The winning team were Claire, Mark, Judy and Peter with a great score of 85 points. (Mark, extreme right in picture with Peter next to him - unfortunately their two lady partners had to leave before the photo session) The Hotel gave us a private dining room and bar overlooking the floodlit 18th greens of both courses, a great backdrop for our dinner on the Saturday evening. For anybody thinking of staying in this Hotel, the rooms and service are excellent and the food, whether breakfast, lunch or dinner, even better! The Hotel also has an excellent state of the art gymnasium, spa and swimming pool.

Sunday's golf format on the Championship Gainsborough course was a "waltz"; one score to count on the first, two on the second, three on the third, one of the fourth etc. Excellent scoring in glorious sunshine, with a very close finish; two teams on 81 points but on countback it was the team of Mark, Minty, Trevor and Gillian (from left to right in photo) by virtue of scoring 9 points at the 18th, helped by Mark's 2 for 5 points! This is not however the record for the weekend as another of our members, Tony, also scored  2 for 5 points on the 18th!

Drinks, snacks and prize giving in the clubhouse in the late afternoon sunshine; a great weekend was had by all.

To answer the question, "Can we have another weekend at Stoke by Nayland?" The answer is "Yes". We have booked an Easter break and an Autumn break for 2010. Full details have just been posted on the Events pages.

And some comments from members:

"My first TEEforeTWO Event and I was surprised by how quickly I settled in and became relaxed, for me anyway. I normally take a while to get on with strangers but for some reason this was different. I am pleased to say that I have made some new friends and I look forward to seeing them again".
Ray

"For anyone hesitating on taking part in one of the weekends, don't. Everyone is very friendly, you will meet some lovely people, hopefully play good golf on great courses and most importantly enjoy yourself. The courses at Stoke by Nayland were beautiful, hotel, service and food excellent. Thanks again to Janet and Michael, extremely well and seamlessly organised."
Carol

"Just to say a big thank you for a great weekend at Stoke by Nayland."
Rod

"Thanks for organising such a splendid "do". I know how much hard work goes into an event like this but it was brilliantly done and thoroughly enjoyed by all."
Mark

"What a super weekend of golf at a wonderful venue. The weather was great, hotel and food excellent, as was the company. I look forward to our next vist Easter 2010."
Diana

"This was my first T42 w/e, and was spot on. Superb venue, great company, friendly atmosphere, good food, lovely spa (Oh yes, I swam and went in the steam room before b/fast). On the course, you felt you were hitting the ball into a Constable or Gainsborough painting. Thanks to Janet and Michael."
