The Duke's Course, St Andrews, 22nd August
The Duke's Course St Andrews is a mighty beast off the back tees measuring a huge 7512 yards; we had thought that the men would like to play off the white tees, but our intrepid George (one of the winners) requested that they play off the green tees, a mere 6550 yards! The ladies tees measured 5216. But both yardages were long enough for most as the bunkers, over 100 of them were to welcome many a stray ball!
This was our second visit of the year to The Duke's - they look after their guests extremely well here: it is owned by The Old Course Hotel in St Andrews - the welcome and the service that is the hallmark of the hotel has been passed on to the team at The Duke's Golf Club which makes it a very special place.
Mixed fourballs in bright sunshine and a gentle breeze with stunning views over St Andrews bay - no wonder Members travelled such distances to play here; one Member flew in for the weekend from Galway!
The winners (Pictured above) were George, Nancy, Judy and Ian who scored a magnificent 83 stableford points, two scores on each hole to count.
A most enjoyable day at the home of golf, rounded off with dinner in the Captain's Dining Room at the Clubhouse.
