Camberley Heath Golf Club, Surrey, 24th July
Greg Norman, Bernhard Langer, Tom Watson, Sam Torrance, and all the Professionals competing in the Seniors Open Championship at Sunningdale were not the only golfers to suffer heavy rain and thunderstorm delays: TEEforeTWO Members had similar delays a few minutes away at Camberley Heath Golf Club, which was used earlier in the week as a pre-qualifying course for the Championship.
Camberley is a great golf course, difficult but beautiful. Lots of pines and heather, rolling fairways and very fast greens! So many Members said afterwards that they would like to play the course again; and now they can. The Club kindly gave all our Members vouchers for members' guest rates for the next time they wish to play at Camberley Heath.
The TEEforeTWO day started perfectly; warm sunshine, Members gathering for coffee and a sandwich in the clubhouse ready for the 2.00 p.m. start. The first group got underway but then the hooter went off for play suspension due to lightning and thunder. What followed was 90 minutes of torrential rain and impressive lightning; we all adjourned to the bar!
After being given the "all clear" by the team at Camberley, we had a 2-tee start; whilst there was some water on a few greens and fairways, the weather was perfect and not another drop of rain!
Late start, late finish; very sociable drinks in the bar post golf and then an excellent dinner in the private dining room on the first floor overlooking the 18th green in late evening sunshine.
We had two winners of the longest drive on the 489 yard 3rd - Claire and Malcolm. Nearest the pin on the 144 yard 14th was Milton. And our winning team (pictured) in the mixed 4-balls stableford competition was Brian, Rosalind, Joyce and Milton. Congratulations to them.
I wonder whether the Pros at Sunningdale enjoyed their Friday as much?
And some comments by Members:
"Thank you to Janet and Michael for a very well organised day. The thunderstorm that prevented us from getting away on time did little to dampen the spirits of those I was fortunate enough to play with.
As a first timer at a TEEforeTWO event, I was simply thrilled at the welcome extended and I can assure anyone who may be sitting at home undecided that you could not wish to be amongst better golfing company - you'll love it!
Roll on New Zealand Golf Club!"

"Camberley Heath proved a tough challenge but well worth the visit. Thanks to Janet and Michael for re-arranging the starting times around the thunderstorms! Another well organised, friendly, sociable event. Am looking forward to the next one."

"Thank you for organising another very successful event. Your summary of the day says it all - another memorable day for me; I seem to meet such charming people each time. Each course has been different and reminds me that I need to focus on those important points - TEEforeTWO offers many challenges for us all!"
